Toy drive for Penfield sends important message

Community Service

For the past two years, Horizon Retail Construction employees have made the holidays much brighter for kids at the Penfield Children’s Center in Milwaukee through toy drives.
In 2016, the company sponsored 60 children; in 2017, more than 64 individuals were sponsored, thanks to Horizon employees.

Becky Michelsen, manager of community outreach and family programs at Penfield, said: “It means a lot to the children here to receive toys each year. The majority of our families are living at or below the poverty level, and the holidays can be difficult for parents because they want to provide holiday wishes for their children.”

Michelsen said Horizon’s efforts to provide gifts for families are vital. “It means a lot to us that they’re not only willing to gather toys for our children, but some of the names we provide also are for parents. It’s nice for them to feel they’re important too.”

The mission of Penfield Children’s Center is to create a positive start in life for infants and children, many of whom have developmental delays or disabilities, by providing early education, health services and family programming. Penfield primarily serves children from birth to age 6 and serves 1,400 children and their families each year.

By providing these gifts to Penfield families, Horizon employees are sending an important message: You and your family deserve a wonderful holiday!
